This story describes what can happen if parents decide for they're children who they will marry. a young man likes a young girl, who has an older sister, who is handicapped. Parents decide that the older sister should marry first, so the younger, better looking would be married to a better, richer man. As the youn man doesn't like the older sister, he's trying to prevent marriage, but he doesn't succeed. After marriage, he cheats on her, drinks a lot, comes drunk at home, and then puts his hands on her. She tries to get his love with the help of a magic drink, but she doesn't succeed, of course. After all, the marriage is broken, two lifes are broken, and can never love again. Truly moving. Very good movie for Croatian cinema of the 50ies. A truly good, almost genial performance of Nela Erzisnik.
                    Due to negligence that caused the death of a family cow, an extremely poor but handsome young man Iva must obey his father's demands to marry an unattractive and limping daughter of wealthy villagers.
