年仅10岁的荻野千寻是一个看起来非常普通的四年级小学生，她随父母搬家来到一个陌生的城镇准备开始一个全新的生活。然而，因为途中迷路，她和父母误闯入了一个人类不应该进入的灵异小镇。小镇的主管是当地一家叫“油屋”的澡堂的巫婆：汤婆婆；而“油屋”则是为服侍日本八百万天神洗澡的地方。镇上有一条规定，在镇上凡是没有工作的人，都要被变成猪被吃掉。

千寻的父母由于贪吃，未经过店员容许就随便触碰食物，而遭到惩罚变成了猪。千寻为了拯救父母，在汤婆婆的助手“珀”（ハク，香港和台湾上映时译为“白龙”）的帮助下，进入澡堂，并成功的获得了一份工作。作为代价，她的名字被汤婆婆拿掉了笔划太多的名字，成了“千”（香港和台湾片中称为“小千”）。在澡堂工作的过程中，小千从一个娇生惯养，什么活都不会做的小女孩，逐渐成长，变得越来越坚强能干；同时，她善良的品格也开始得到了澡堂中其他的尊重，而她和白龙之间也萌生出一段纯真的感情。

而为了拯救父母和对自己重要的人，面对各种困难和危险，千寻也一次次做出了自己的选择。而影片也随着她的心理变化历程而展开。

　　这是动画大师宫崎骏的又一力作。仿佛爱丽斯梦游仙境一样的蓝本，充满想象力的生动画面，十分引人入胜。而剧中的每个角色似乎都象征着现实生活中具有典型意义的人，同时又具有丰富的个性：比如汤婆婆是金钱至上的经营者，可一旦面对自己的孩子又变得十分体贴；无脸人只会用物质的方式来拉拢人心，性格好像孩子一样的幼稚单纯。这个故事中有太多的东西可以挖掘。在这个瑰丽的世界中，小主人公千寻的冒险是追寻自我的过程，同时她也在这个过程中得以成长，而跟随着她，观众似乎也找到了什么。本片真是又叫好又叫座，十分风光地摘得了柏林电影节金熊奖等多个国际大奖，而在日本国内也囊获了不少奖项，票房则达到了破记录的300亿日元。

【轰动世界的《千与千寻》】

　　听了著名电影评论家罗杰·艾伯特(Roger Ebert)的话，或许从不看动画片的人也会对《千与千寻》产生兴趣——“它打败‘通常’电影在这次的柏林电影节上夺魁，它超越《泰坦尼克号》成为日本历史上最卖座的电影，它是首部在美国公映前票房收入就超过2亿美元的电影。”

　　2002年2月17日，第52届德国柏林国际电影节的金熊奖颁给了日本动画《千与千寻》与英国爱尔兰合拍的电影《血腥星期天》。这并不是第一次由两部电影分享“金熊”，却是第一次让动画片拔得头筹。能在三大电影节之一的柏林盛会上获奖，这部杰作的艺术水准不言而喻。这一前所未有的成功打破了许多人对动画片的偏见，也令宫崎骏的知名度一夜间从日本本土和动画业界扩展到了全世界的电影人和影迷之中。

　　过了一年，继欧洲之后美国也传来捷报，本片打败劲敌迪斯尼动画在第75届奥斯卡颁奖典礼上夺得了最佳长篇动画的小金人。

　　在海外获得辉煌荣誉之前，《千与千寻》已经在日本本土获得难以计数的电影奖项，并且创造了奇迹般的票房纪录。影片正式公映首日，观众超过了43万，票房收入突破5亿5千万日元；截止2002年3月，影片一共吸引了2323万243名观众，而最终票房收入达到304亿元。这一票房成绩跃居历年排行榜的首位，比第二的《泰坦尼克号》多了三千多万，而在国产片范围内则比当时的排名第二的《幽灵公主》多了1亿多(后来04年上映的《哈尔的移动城堡》超过了《幽灵公主》)。

【宫崎大师的集大成制作】

　　这部又叫好又叫座的动画究竟有何魅力？作为宫崎骏的代表作又有何与众不同之处？

　　据宫崎导演透露，这是一部回到吉卜力原点为孩子们创作的动画。动画的主角是一个十岁的女孩，而针对的观众也是十岁的孩子。宫崎导演希望用这部作品来激发孩子们的“生存之力”。影片剧情大致可以概括为一个冒险故事。然而这场冒险却没有通常少儿作品中的正邪之争、没有神奇的超能力和武器，片中的角色也并非绝对的好人和坏人。从某个角度来说，这部让孩子们觉得有趣好看的电影算得上是寓教于乐的典范。

　　然而这部动画并没有停留在单纯的“儿童片”的层面上，宫崎导演在其中融入了许多能触动大人之心的东西。片中的许多人物一方面带着日本传统文化的影子，另一方面又反映出现代社会的众生之相。用无尽的幻想构筑起来的这两个多小时仿佛是宫崎骏书写的一部隐喻集，其中包含着难以估量的信息，不同的人会得出不同的解读。社会学家根据婚龄和生育的数据在片中发现了现代日本典型小家庭的风貌；哲学家从主人公的遭遇中读出了人的异化；语言学家由“千寻”到“千”的名字更换挖掘出符号的深意；风俗学家在油屋大浴场看到了123业的蛛丝马迹……当然，大多数观众并不会那么“学术”，但都能从某些场面某些台词中获得触动。

　　影片保持了吉卜力大作一贯的高品质。花了三年时间精雕细琢而成。吉卜力的制作速度通常是一个月完成5分钟动画。影片原定片长110分钟，后来加到 125分钟，于是迟了三个月才完成。为主要角色千寻和白配音的分别是刚刚步入演艺圈不久的柊瑠美和经常为小孩配音的声优入野自由，两位都是充满活力的中学生，而配角阵则有资深演员菅原文太、夏木真理等人坐镇。此外，名作曲家久石让再次与宫崎骏合作，为影片带来了动人的背景音乐。

　　影片公映之际，宫崎骏已入花甲之年。这部作品承载着他对人生的体悟，反映着他数十年来在动画上的执着，可谓宫崎骏的集大成之作。

.Chihiro and her parents are moving to a small Japanese town in the countryside, much to Chihiro's dismay. On the way to their new home, Chihiro's father makes a wrong turn and drives through a lonely land road with dead end at the entrance to a tunnel. Her parents decide to stop the car and explore the area. They cross the tunnel and find an abandoned cultural theme park on the other side with its own town inside. When her parents see a restaurant with great smelling food but no staff, they decide to eat and pay later; however Chihiro refuses to eat and decides to explore the theme park a bit more. She meets a boy named Haku that tells her that her parents and herself are in danger and they must leave the place. She runs to the restaurant and finds that her parents have turned into pigs. Further, the theme park is actually a town inhabited by otherworldly figures such as demons, spirits, and evil gods. At the center of the town is a bathhouse where these creatures go to cleanse themselves. The evil witch Yubaba, who is intent on keeping all trespassers, in this case Chihiro, as captive workers, owns the bathhouse. Now Chihiro must rely on Haku to save her parents and return to their world. Written byZachary Harper

After getting out of the car and walking along a path for a while, they discover an open-air restaurant filled with food but with no workers or customers present. Mom and Dad don't hesitate to sit down and dig in, but Chihiro senses danger and refuses. As night falls, she is terrified to see the area fill with faceless spirits, but when she runs to find her parents, she discovers that they have been turned into pigs. She is found by a mysterious boy named Haku, who promises to help her. He gets her a job working in a nearby building, which turns out to be a bathhouse for the thousands of Japan's gods and spirits. Though the work is hard and the people strange, she does as well as she can. Her parents, however, are still waiting in the hotel's stockyard, and Chihiro must find a way to break the spell on them before they end up as the main course of some guest's dinner. Chihiro's doubt of this strange town leads her to wander off, and she comes across a building of titanic size, where a young boy warns her to leave before nightfall. However, as the sun sets, the town begins to fill up with the gods of Japan's mythology, and Chihiro returns to find her parents mysteriously turned into pigs. The young boy, Haku, works in the building, which is a bathhouse for 8 Million gods. She then runs off and hides, Haku then comes looking for Chihiro promising her that he will help her save her parents but the only way was for Chihiro to get a job in the bathhouse for the Gods and spirits of Japan.
