                    June Clay, in her mountain home, is loved by Jim Dexter, a forest ranger. She returns his love, but will not consent to marry him, because she is always longing for the wealth and luxury which she sees displayed at the big hunting lodge near. She has met Earl Metcalf, who lives at the lodge and is a ward of Earl's father. Olive and Earl have been sweethearts since childhood, and a marriage between them has been arranged which is to be announced that night at a masked ball at the Lodge. Olive, in the meantime, has become fascinated by the flattery and suave manner of Victor Melville. Victor, on learning that the marriage is to be formally announced at the ball, becomes desperate, and asks Olive to elope with him. Olive declines, because of the opposition that will be raised, and says she could not leave as her presence would soon be missed.
