The demarcation line is close to their house, but they still live in a free area. But they are mysteriously given over to the police and imprisoned for eating a goose. They are freed by Maria Müller, a generous prison visitor who becomes their friend and regularly supplies them with all types of food. Maria becomes so attached to the house that she wants to rent a room there, and how could they refuse such a charitable person. So starts a strange dance between a group of somewhat non-communicative and transient people. But nothing worries Adèle and Etienne as long as they have enough to eat. Not even the gold bars and dollars they find between two pots...
                    In 1937, Adèle and Etienne Grandclément are childless recently retired civil servants. Their dream comes true when they buy a detached house called "Villa Marguerite". In their quiet street, they lead a peaceful life and dedicate themselves to their one passion: good food. In 1940, the north-south boundary line narrowly places the Villa Marguerite within France's free zone. But Adèle and Etienne aren't spared the deprivation of war. And after eating a goose on November 11th, they are denounced and put in jail. Fortunately, Marie Fuller, who helps prisoners, manages to get them out. Now their close friend, she keeps delivering them products from her cousins' farm. Marie loves the Villa Marguerite so much that she even asks Adèle and Etienne to rent her a room, which they can hardly refuse. Then start the mysterious coming and goings of tongue-tied strangers and suitcases. And when Marie goes away, to help the needy she says, her friends' parade doesn't stop.
