This Hungarian rites-of-passage drama centers upon a boarding school student from a broken home. When he meets a lovely blonde student he is immediately smitten and the two strike up a romance. Trouble erupts when he sees her dancing with her ex-boyfriend and he is sure that she's cheating on him. The distraught lad half-heartedly attempts to hang himself. He fails and the goes to his father for counsel. While there he meets his father's mistress, an opera singer, who teaches him the art of love. He then returns to school and resumes his romance with the girl. Unfortunately he impregnates her, and when he learns that she wants an abortion, he goes to get drunk, and then decides to seek his mother's advice. He gets there only to find his father who tells him that his mother is dying. The son disbelieves him and runs back to his girl who has decided to keep the babe. They marry. He takes her back to his mother, but it is too late. The devastated boy then runs through the rain with his bride running to comfort him.
