在这部观察：永远看着你剧情/爱情片中,小学生の茂樹は初めて与えられたひとり部屋で、天体望遠鏡を覗く日々を飽きずに送り続けた。覗いた先に見えた弥生という少女に、一目で心を奪われたからだ。その後、引越しで一時的に弥生を"観察"出来ない環境に身を置く事になったものの、茂樹の弥生を見つめる行為は、結婚し子供が生まれてもずっと続いた。だが、やがて妻の知るところとなり、平穏に見えた茂樹の家庭にも終わりが訪れる。そして50歳になった茂樹のもとに、なんと弥生からある荷物が送られてきて…。
不器用だが純粋な想いを内に秘めた男女が織り成す、大人のためのラブ?ストーリー。「イヌゴエ」「イヌゴエ 幸せの肉球」「ヒッチハイク 溺れる箱舟」の横井健司監督のもと、「陰日向に咲く」の緒川たまきと「戦-IKUSA-」の小沢和義が共演。更に、遠藤憲一、鈴木砂羽、小沢仁志、光石研、江口のりこ、小倉一郎、河合美智子、平田満といった実力派の俳優が多数共演して主演の二人と作品世界を大いに盛り立て、レイトショーながらロングラン?ヒットを記録した佳作である。
                    10-year-old Shigeki, owns his own room for the first time. From his room, he sees a girl living in a big hill top house. Shigeki instantly fell in love with the girl. Her name was Yayoi. Shigeki buys a telescope with the help of his father and starts watching her. But after a while, Shigeki has to move away. He wrote a love letter to Yayoi, put it in her post and left town. Shigeki grew up and still watching Yayoi. One night as he watched Yayoi, a man appears in her room. When he sees the man kissing Yayoi, Shigeki goes crazy. He married a woman named Misaki even though he didn't love her. But the two has a son and are living happily. Just as Yayoi married and had a daughter. Even then, Shigeki kept watching Yayoi. As Shigeki turns 50, his eyes are weakened by using his eyes too much for all those years. His view is clouded and he can't even see through the telescope anymore. One day, he receives a box full of notebooks. They were the diaries that Yayoi had kept.
