在这部控方证人剧情/犯罪/悬疑片中,2016年圣诞节期间BBC推出两集电视剧版《控方证人》，剧情改编自阿加莎·克里斯蒂的同名短篇小说，依旧由电视剧版《无人生还》编剧Sarah Phelps担任改编。故事背景设定在1923年，富家女艾米莉遭到杀害，她死前曾修改遗嘱，把大笔遗产留给年轻男子伦纳德，却不知他已婚。死者的仆人在法庭上坚称伦纳德就是凶手，而唯一能证明他清白的却是他的妻子罗梅。她会做出怎样的选择呢？
《控方证人》的原著短篇故事首次发表于1925年，后来克里斯蒂于1953年将其改编扩展为舞台剧并受到好评。1957年比利·怀尔德导演的同名经典悬疑片就是根据该舞台剧本改编。本次BBC推出的电视剧版本则是由编剧回归到原短篇小说基础上进行改编和再创作，因此剧情与之前的电影版有所不同。
Set in 1920s London, a brutal and bloodthirsty murder has stained the plush carpets of a handsome London townhouse. The victim is the glamorous and rich Emily French. All the evidence points to Leonard Vole, a young chancer to whom the heiress left her vast fortune and who ruthlessly took her life.
