影片拍摄手法单纯；几十个候孝贤似长镜头像“槟榔”一样码放成一排，组成这两个多小时的影片，给适合他的观众消解；除了开始没有多久两个人在河边石头上抽烟那个镜头没有细节刻画外，其余的每个长镜头里都有精心的调度，戏剧张力十足！
全片的长镜头基本以固定镜头为主，全景展示，只有3处镜头用了缓慢的摇镜，观众不注意也不易觉察，因此看片的时候有种远远注视的感觉，观众和片中人物始终保持着一种距离，远远的看着他们的青春时光流逝，看着他们的小生活、小情谊、小爱情、小故事、小世界！
这种距离是导演刻意营造的，距离产生美感，距离让长镜头美幻绝伦，影象没有被打断，像湘西的那条河流默默的流淌，内里深沉悠远！
Along a sleepy Hunan riverside, two delinquent boys experience a summer of love and violence in Yang Heng's visually stunning debut. Ali and Xiao Yu are two teenage rebels idling away their days along the banks of a river in Jishou, a quiet town in Hunan province. They steal motorbikes, bully and rob kids, sing karaoke and get into fist fights outside the local internet bar. . But their rough exterior belies a deeper romanticism, and a tenderness unfolds between them and their teenage loves. As one day bleeds into the next in this impoverished rural setting, it becomes apparent that these sun-baked days of misspent youth will be the wildest, freest time of their lives.
