A young man on the run seeks refuge near a clearing in the woods. There, hidden from view, he bears silent witness to a young mother's attempt to abandon her infant child. When his presence is eventually discovered, he solicits her help in his escape attempt. The Clearing is a tale of failed escapes from failed lives, a deceptively simple film about the balance between freedom and responsibility, and a fragile thing called Hope.
