An English officer repairs to headquarters for duty; his wife goes to fill an engagement at a military ball, leaving her two children in care of her maid, having that same day discharged another servant for domestic reasons. The discharged Ayah, knowing of the engagement of her former employer, comes to the house with her paramour and forcibly kidnaps one of the children. The faithful maid, unable to prevent escape of the kidnappers, rushes away to inform her mistress of the unfortunate affair. Alone the Englishwoman ventures to recover her child.
