In fact, we soon discover that these four are actually actors making a film. The real Alex Wheeler is a filmmaker directing a movie about his complex relationships with the real Suzanne and the real Cheryl. Through the multiple layers of the film-within-the-film, the characters explore their most important relationships and confront their deepest questions.
