When Jannie requires emergency surgery, he is flown to New York, where he bemoans the fact that he has been separated from his black chum. Whereupon, Tsepo and Father Alberto jet to the Big Apple themselves - but Tsepo gets lost in the airport, and winds up in Harlem under the supervision of social worker Carol Anne. Upon returning to South Africa, Jannie's grandparents appear and plan to take him home with them, but he and Tsepo run away, with tragic results...
