Taiwanese born concert pianist Pei-Fen Liu is dealing with the standard side effects of her recent heart transplant: hypertension, headaches, stomach pains, back pains, sensitivity to light, dizziness and insomnia. When Pei-Fen begins to suffer terrifying nightmares of dragging a dead body through the forest, she begins to suspect that she was given more than just a heart. She was also given the memories of the donor. As she obsessively tracks down the identity of the donor, she discovers a terrible secret: she was given the heart of a murderer. And so begins a journey into an America she did not know existed and yet is now part of who she is.
